Born in Berkeley, Calif., he was a retired Hawaiian Telephone Co. engineer, World War II U.S. Army Veteran, co-founder of the Hilo Sailing Club and member of the Hilo Rotary Club, Kawaihae Boating Association, and Big Island Amateur Radio Club. William Shinichi Shimabukuro, 80, of Hilo died May 12 at Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home. Born in Hilo, he owned the former Shima’s Electric and was a U.S. Army Korean War-era veteran.
